Our Literacy Program
Teaching reading to children with Mild Intellectual Disabilities (MID) and Moderate Intellectual Disabilities (MOID) is critical for their overall academic and personal growth. Reading is a fundamental skill that opens the door to learning and knowledge, and the ability to read well is a key factor in success in many areas of life. By teaching reading to children with MID and MOID, we are helping them gain access to information, expand their vocabulary, and develop comprehension skills that are vital for academic success.
In addition to its practical applications, reading also plays an important role in promoting social and emotional development. Through reading, children with MID and MOID can explore new worlds, learn about different cultures and perspectives, and develop empathy and understanding. Reading can also be a source of comfort and enjoyment, helping children to relax, unwind, and escape from the stresses of daily life. By providing specialized instruction, adapted materials, and appropriate support, we can help them to become confident and competent readers, and set them on a path to a lifetime of learning and discovery.
